Over the past two weeks, ID Canada activists from across the country took part in a food drive campaign that resulted in over 500 cans of food, 100 boxes/packages of pasta, over a dozen large bags of rice, and well over 100 jars of miscellaneous condiments, jams, peanut butter, sauces, etc being donated to those in need. IDC Montreal also donated $200 to their local food bank.
The goods are a combination of door-to-door collections, as well as food purchased by ID Canada. The funds used by ID Canada to purchase missing essentials came from your donations to the organization, Patrons of ID Canada, and application membership fees.
ID Canada is very proud to support local food banks, which directly help Canadians in need. This was a very important campaign for us as we strongly believe in doing more community-oriented activism, with a strong regional & local focus. We thought there was no better time to do a food drive than Thanksgiving, when our food bank infrastructure and resources are stretched very thin.
We want all Canadians to be able to celebrate this uniquely Canadian holiday without having to worry about where their meal will come from. We believe the family unit to be one of the most integral parts of our society, and ensuring families have the opportunity to break bread together on this sacred holiday is very important to us.
Not only did we meet locals and put kind, familiar faces to an organization that’s usually the target of constant smear campaigns and slanderous headlines, but we also got to give, which we believe to be the entire foundation to Thanksgiving.
We thank you all for your kind donations and support of this campaign.
Happy Thanksgiving, from our families to yours.
